Our Story at 6BC

Hi, I’m Cathy Prince, and I’m so excited to share the story behind 6BC with you. Born in the Champagne region of France, I grew up surrounded by wine, not just for celebrations, but as part of everyday life. My husband, who hails from Bordeaux, shares the same passion. For us, wine has always been about family dinners, long conversations with friends, and savoring simple, beautiful moments around the table.

When we moved to the United States in 2012, we quickly noticed something missing: French wines that truly felt like home. The options were either grocery-store bottles that didn’t quite hit the mark or imported wines with prices that made us pause. We realized that something as central and joyful as wine had become intimidating and often inaccessible. We missed the French approach: wine that is high-quality, affordable, and meant to be shared regularly—not just on special occasions.

That desire sparked the idea for 6BC - a name inspired by the date marking the start of wine cultivation in France. Our mission is simple: to bring authentic, approachable French wines and Champagne to Birmingham, without the luxury price tag or the intimidation factor. Whether you’re new to wine or a seasoned enthusiast, we want you to feel at home the moment you step through our doors.

6BC is about more than just wine. I’ve curated a selection of cheeses, charcuterie, and seasonal bites that complement each bottle, creating a full sensory experience. Our tastings and events are designed to be interactive and educational, you’ll learn how to identify scents, connect them to flavors on your board, and gain a deeper understanding of what’s in your glass. It’s fun, relaxed, and all about discovering wine in a way that feels natural and welcoming.

Above all, 6BC is about community. It’s about slowing down, gathering around a table, and sharing something meaningful. Our goal is to bring a little slice of France to Birmingham, a place where people can connect, savor, and celebrate life together.
